Yesterday afternoon proved to be as dull as the rest of my everyday afternoons. I was sitting down on my bed, chatting on aim and pondering whether or not I should do my taxes. All of a sudden a flash came to me... I have nothing to do until Monday afternoon (REALLY more like Tuesday night...)... I'm going to do my taxes in Memphis.
_It took me a half hour to pack up, find someone to dogsit, drop her off and head out.
_Last night I didn't QUITE make it, though. In unincorporated Holmes County, MS, I started hallucinating (I had only slept about four hours the night before). The next pullover spot was a rest area with full security, so I pulled over, snuggled into my sleeping bag (yes it was roughly 80 degrees outside) and went to sleep.
_When I woke up this morning at 7:00am (I had set my alarm so I could get to Memphis at a reasonable hour), I blinked, looked at where I was, couldn't believe I had done something so riduculous and decided to sleep a little more so I could deal with my stupidity later.
_I woke up at 8:30 and left my safe sleeping spot set out for Graceland.
_It was AMAZING. All I could do was imagine Elvis walking around naked... swimming naked... OH, there's his bed, he was naked there... HEY those were his boxers in that display case!!... etc. etc. etc.
_Then I headed over to Sun Studios where Elvis was first recorded (and Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, others others others), took the small guided tour and asked my very-my-age-punk-rock-looking tour guide if he knew of anything local I could do tonight/if there was a coffee shop anywhere within reason.
_So, I find myself at Quetzal's on Union Ave in Memphis.
_Now I can do my taxes somewhere interesting, and go out tonight somewhere that ISN'T somewhere I've been a hundred times.
_Oh, and I did get a job at Whole Foods but I don't start until the 16th so I'll be bored until then. I'll be the cheese/wine/coffee gal :) :) :)
